Liz Anthonisen est une étudiante qui travaille actuellement pour terminer sa dernière année à Nepean High School. Elle est impliquée avec CHUO depuis 2019, après avoir travaillé avec nous d’abord en tant qu’étudiante coopérative et maintenant en tant que coordonnatrice des festivals pour l’été 2020. Elle est passionnée par les arts et, dans son temps libre, elle aime jouer de la musique, chanter, explorer la ville et boire un peu trop de cafés glacés.
Résumé
Festivals 101 est un podcast sur – vous l’avez deviné – les festivals! Dans chaque épisode, Liz jette un coup œil à un festival local différent et fouille un peu plus sur ce qu’ils font exactement. Pourquoi sont-ils ici? Quels sont leurs objectifs? Et surtout, quel est leur impact sur la vie de leurs clients, année après année? Chaque festival a une histoire derrière lui, qu’il s’agisse de créer un espace pour les artistes du BIPOC pour partager leur travail ou de reconnaître l’importance d’offrir un théâtre accessible à la communauté. Même en cette période de crise, les organisateurs et les artistes s’efforcent de vous offrir l’expérience du festival en toute sécurité, et il serait vraiment dommage de laisser leur travail passer inaperçu. Dans cette série, vous pouvez tout entendre sur les histoires et les personnes qui ont consacré des centaines d’heures à offrir à leurs clients des expériences incroyables tout en encourageant l’inclusion, l’acceptation, l’accessibilité et bien plus encore.

The Ottawa Chamberfest has been around for more than 20 years, and it’s made many, many changed to its programming in that time. It’s opened up to new genres and artists, created new concert series and increased it’s community outreach efforts tenfold. In this episode, we find out why the Chamberfest has made such drastic changes, how they’ve been able to maintain their success through this metamorphosis and how this change has impacted the community around them.

DIY Spring is a festival made by and for BIPOC and LGBTQ people. They aim to showcase artists from all backgrounds, and increase representation for marginalized artists in Ottawa. In this episode, we look into how DIY Spring is combatting underrepresentation in the arts, and the wide array of problems underrepresentation has created for BIPOC and LGBTQ artists living and working in Ottawa.

House of Paint describes itself as a festival to celebrate and elevate the four pillars of hip hop music, and in doing so it’s become one of the most popular festivals in Ottawa, beloved by performers, artists and everyday people alike. In this episode, we discover why hip hop means so much to so many people, and how House of Paint has been able to foster a unique atmosphere of community at their festival that you can’t find anywhere else.
ÉPISODE 4: SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK (EN)
What light through yonder window breaks? It’s the Shakespeare in the Park festival, put on by the very talented Company of Fools! For 30 years this festival has been bringing light and laughter to anywhere they can, creating accessible shows that anyone can see and enjoy. In this episode, we dive into the heart of Shakespeare in the Park, why accessibility is so important to them, and how they manage to make 16th century theatre relevant and enjoyable for everyone.
ÉPISODE 5: UPROAR ARTS (EN)
UPROAR is a relatively new festival, even though they’re only on their second season they’ve already established themselves as a one-of-a-kind arts festival here in Ottawa. UPROAR is a multidisciplinary arts festival showcasing art of all kinds from women and nonbinary people, everything from theatre to visual art to music to burlesque is welcome. In this episode, we speak with some of the amazing artists involved with UPROAR to find out why they felt this space was necessary, some of the works that will be on display this year and how gender plays a role in the arts.

Le Festival Franco-Ontarien est un espace pour les francophones et francophiles de découvrir et célébrer la culture et la musique franco-ontarien. Soit enfant, adolescent ou adulte, le Festival Franco-Ontarien est un endroit accueillant et amusant.
