This Friday on Hop The Fence from 5 to 6 pm:
Poor Young Things:
Every once in a while, I get a craving for some straight up rock. Nothing my brain needs to decipher, no active listening skills required, just the willingness to enjoy great tunes and have fun! That’s what Poor Young Things have for us. They are currently recording with their dream producer Jon Drew (Arkells) and signed a deal with Bumstead Records. Won’t be long before they’re a household name. Catch them at Algonquin College on Monday night.
The Maladies of Adam Stokes:
Six friends wanting to share good times with like-minded music fans. In the past three years, these Toronto-based musicians have blended melancholy with joy, borrowing from a variety of genres to create a uniquely gritty folk/rock sound. Their latest disc, City of Trees, showcases multiple instruments including electric and slide guitars, glockenspiel, trumpet, melodian, keyboard and fiddle. (They had me at glockenspiel !) They are in Ottawa tonight at Avant-Garde Bar.
